‘Empowering rural communities for self reliance’
(Supported by NTPC Kahalgaon, Bihar under the CSR initiative)

DISHA is implementing a community development project since November 2012 in ten Villages surrounding NTPC Thermal Power Station in Kahalgaon, Bihar till October 2014. The main area of intervention is through formation of Self-Help Groups, starting micro credit, linkage with lead banks for micro enterprises, skill training, capacity building of members and group leaders of SHGs, educational program with children for improvement of quality of education and training in adolescent reproductive health.

Formation of self help group of women and capacity building in group management, micro credit and micro enterprise programs
 
Offering preventive health care initiatives in maternal and child health and adolescent reproductive health
 
Involving male participation towards gender equity
 
Providing class room based support for improvement in quality of primary education to children studying in government primary schools

 

 

Geographical Coverage:

 

DISHA proposes to work on a pilot basis in following ten villages surrounding NTPC Kahalgaon namely:
    Alampur, Bhader, Mahesha Munda, Ogri, Chopal Tola, Ekchari, Padampur in Kahalgaon block in district Bhagalpur, Bihar
    Jiajori, Jatakothi and Jagarnathpur villages in Mahagama block in district Godda, Jharkand
 

Target Groups:

Primary beneficiaries
  1440 Poor Women (SC,ST and BPL)
  800 Children
  240 married women and 480 adolescents
  200 men
Ten project team members of DISHA are working in the project to create an enabling environment for participation of people in their development in an empowerment mode.
 

 

Accomplishment/Achievements

  240 married women and 480 adolescents
  300 members of SHGs trained in three camps
  One ‘Stree Shakti Diwas’ event with 455 members of SHGs
  10 male groups with 200 members for supporting the project initiatives
  20 SHGs group accounts opened in Allahabad and UCO bank
  Educational inputs provided to 400 children in four library cum resource centres
  120 adolescents trained in issues adolescent reproductive health
  60 women trained in aspects of maternal and child health and family welfare
  20 women trained as community health workers
  Five Adolescent resource centres functional for linkage with NHRM
  120 women trained in tailoring and handicrafts
